Clive Barker... The GOD of Horror, or Demi-god, or maybe... Just a pointy little imp...
Anyway, Undying is shallow attempt by Mr. Barker to scare the crap out of his loyal horror fanbase. Scary as the game seems, it fall short of the hype and the expectations of Mr. Barkers reputation.
Set back in the day, 1913, or whatnot, your play the role or Patric Galloway, a excommunicated Irish Man, who studys the weird and mysterious. Thus Patric is called via Snail mail, that takes SEVEN years to arrive to his friends deathbead.
Anyway, **** soon turns bad, and Patick this trown headfirst into an cursed family bloodbath that as him tracking all over Ireland. Still boring...
The game is chock fill of creppy critters and bosses that range from imps with razor sharp claws to an undead goth chick that tries to eat you. Now were talkin!!!
Patrick must kill his friends family, one at a time, to release their souls and end the curse. He acclompished this with a sweet reaper by cutting off there heads.
Ahh... Clive, there are times that you ROCK!
Sadly, this extremly gruesome excution of kin does little to save the game from the facts. This game's levels are poorly renendered, with medicore graphics and the levels are linear to boot.
No exploration, no sidequest, and its buggy. I've had to restart the levels quite a few times because the game dosn't load properly, and I end up stuck in a wall or a vital item does appear. Also the interface and controls are difficult. Your suppose to weild both magic and pistols, but I found myself useing the weapons more than weapons. Just by the interface.
Agh.... There are times that I wanted to throw this game though the window, and others thant I gritted my teeth and plugged though just to see the next creepy scene.
For a FPS with a horror genre, I am extremly dissapointed. There are so many other good FPS out on the market, but die-hard Clive Barker fans will pick up this title just for the namesake.
